Playlist: 06/28/08

Hello Listeners,

Today I focused on funk and soul from New Orleans—the show started with some of the early blues players, continued on to the work of the Neville family and Allen Toussaint, and featured some of the lesser-known rarities and unreleased tracks of smaller labels such as Pelican and Scram. I wanted to let you know that Allen Toussaint will be performing at Joe’s Pub on Sunday, July 13th—that concert announcement, along with some others for the month of July, is below. Following that, as usual, is the playlist.

Hopefully, next week we’ll have a guest—Nydia Ines Davila, aka DJ Honeydripper, who works at Daptone Records and also spins some great material over at Savalas every Tuesday night. If not next weekend, sometime in July she’ll be dropping by with some selections from her very daunting 45 collection.

Thanks for listening, as always.
